Leeds City Region Employment & Skills Board - Call for SME Board Members

Are you an SME business leader who believes that
investing in workforce skills is key to business growth? If so, you
may be interested in this opportunity to set the direction and
priorities for investment in adult skills and employment programmes
across the Leeds City Region. The Leeds City Region area covers Leeds,
Bradford, Kirklees, Wakefield, Calderdale, York, Harrogate, Selby,
Craven and Barnsley.
The Opportunity: • To develop a pioneering
Board, one of only two outside of London to be given the opportunity to
take on skills strategy-setting powers devolved from Government; • To
champion investment in skills and drive up the demand for training and
learning within your sector/industry; and • To serve on a
high-profile, nationally-recognised private-public Board.
The
People: We are looking for a Chief Executive or MD of a small/medium
sized business (SME) within a growth sector representing the future
economic prospects of our city region to join the Board. Examples of
such sectors include bio-science; health/medical technology; low-carbon/
environmental technologies; and digital industries.
Possessing the
following qualities and experience will be essential: • A clear
strategic vision, excellent communication and leadership skills and a
demonstrable understanding of how skills and employment drive economic
prosperity; • Significant current experience as an employer based
within the City Region*; • Well connected with demonstrable links
with other businesses and organisations, including other key employers
within your sector; • Commitment to serve for up to three years: at
quarterly Board meetings and for up to half a day per month to champion
the work of the Board.
Interest is welcome from individuals
employing up to 250 people and ideally we are seeking those with circa
50-100 employees. We are keen to attract high calibre business men and
women from all sectors of our diverse communities. These positions are
voluntary; however expenses will be reimbursed.
